MRS. PETER STREFF

Funeral services were at St. James Catholic church in LeMars at 10 a.m., Saturday, for Mrs. Peter Streff, 93, a long-time resident of the farm south of Alton. She passed away Thursday after an extended illness. When Mr. Streff died, she moved to LeMars in 1933. The Rev. John Turza conducted the last rites and burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery at Alton. Rosary was recited at the Luedtke Funeral Home, LeMars, Friday evening.

The former Magdalene Hastert, she was born Nov. 24, 1878, at David City, Neb., and was married to Mr. Streff there Jan. 17, 1905. They farmed near Alton until her husband’s death.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Matt Klein of Alton and Mrs. Ward Batman of LeMars; a sister, Mrs. Anne Kettler of LeMars; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

MRS. PETER STREFF

Mrs. Peter (Magdalene) Streff, 93, Le Mars, died early Thursday morning at Floyd Valley hospital after a long illness. She had resided at the hospital since Nov. 1, 1969.

Magdalene Hastert was born Nov. 24, 1878, at David City, Neb., the daughter of pioneers, Nicholas and Catherine Hastert. On Jan. 17, 1905, she was married to Peter Streff at David City. The couple farmed near Alton until his death in 1933. Mrs. Streff had resided in Le Mars since 1936.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic church in Le Mars. Rev. John Turza will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary cemetery, Alton, under direction of the Luedtke funeral home in Le Mars. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday. The parish rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Matt (Margaret) Klein of Alton and Mrs. Ward (Irene) Batman, Le Mars, three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Anne Kettler, Le Mars. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Elmer in childhood and Oscar; five brothers and three sisters.
