Klass "Nicholas" Sjaarda, Sr. 81, passed away at the home of Ring Jasper on Tuesday, November 23 at 9 a.m. after an illness of 6 months with stomach trouble. His suffering was intensified because of a broken hip received 9 weeks ago.

Mr. Sjaarda was born in the Netherlands on January 20, 1862 and was married to Miss Winnie Heins on February 21, 1885. Three children were born to them in Holland: Reverend J. H. Sjaarda of Minier, Illinois. Mrs. Ring Jasper of Orange City and Mrs. John Steensma of Sanborn, Iowa.

The family came to America in 1893 and lived in Chicago, Illinois for 6 months. After that they came to Orange City where they lived for 2 years. They then moved to Pease, Minnesota, where Nicholas, Jr. was born, who 6 years ago preceded his father in death.

From Pease, they moved to Prinsburg, Minnesota, where they lived until in the winter of 1907-08 they moved to Le Mars, Iowa. After 4 years there they moved to Carnes and came to Orange City in 1920 where Mr. Sjaarda spent his remaining years.

Mrs. Sjaarda preceded him in death in October, 1932.

The last 6 years of his life until June 1934 he spent living alone, after this he made his home with his daughter Mrs. Jasper, where he died.

There are 16 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren.

His occupation was that of a farmer. He served as elder in the former Christian Reformed Church at Carnes for a number of years.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p. m. at the home of R. Jasper and at 1:30 p. m. at the First Christian Reformed Church of which he was a member. Reverend R. Bronkema will officiate at the church while Reverend Schuurman will have charge of the services at the local cemetery.
