FRED O. PARKER DIED TUESDAY NIGHT

Another prominent Ireton resident of his eternal rest when Fred O. Parker was called by death shortly before midnight Tuesday. His death was not unexpected as he had not been well for more than three years and the past year he was seriously ill most of the time. During the last week he was critically ill, suffering from hemorrhages of the lungs and he passed away in one. He was conscious to the last but grown so weak that he was unable to speak but made known his wants by writing.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon from the home with Reverend Albert Miller, pastor of the Methodist Church, in charge. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Fred O. Parker, son of Fred O. and Sarah E. Parker, was born November 16, 1878, at Saloma, Kentucky, where his early boyhood was spent. He had attained the age of 62 years, 5 months and 28 days. He came to Ireton nearly 50 years ago with his parents and with the exception of short times spent elsewhere, Ireton has been his home ever since. He attended the Ireton Public Schools and later became a pharmacist which profession he followed for years. He was married to Lena A. Coons at Le Mars July 20, 1904. He became postmaster of Ireton which position he held for nearly 15 years just preceding our present postmaster, John Moeller.

Besides his wife he is survived by one brother, R.C. Parker of Le Mars and one sister, Mrs. Rose Shager of Parker, South Dakota.

He was a painstaking business man and his honesty and integrity were never questioned. Quiet and unassuming in all his actions, his dependability and earnestness were ever apparent. His convictions were strong and unchangeable when he felt that he was in the right. He was loyal to his friends and many will mourn his passing.
