He married Margaret Sturgeon and they had one daughter Mary Ann born Nov 1, 1878 in Sheldon she died 1970, married Home Francis Morfitt and they had 8 children. Other children born to William and Margaret were William Johnson 1869, Elizabeth 1871, John 1872, Joseph 1875.

Found the family in the 1880 census of Floyd township O’Brien County IA William born about 1835 Ireland, wife Margaret born about 1837 Ireland, Children were Robert 15, Margaret 13, Willie 10, Elizabeth 9, John 7, Joseph 5 and Mary Ann 1.
