Mrs. Jacob Mantel, 78, nee Elizabeth Groot passed away at her home Saturday, January 22.

She was born at Andijk, the Netherlands, on July 28, 1865.

On January 7, 1886 she was married to Jacob Mantel at Andijk.

They came to America in 1888 and lived on a farm near Sioux Center after which they moved to a farm near Newkirk. In 1921 they retired from the farm and moved to Orange City.

Surviving are her husband and 6 children: Kate, Mrs. Peter Van der Zwaag; Ella, Mrs. Andrew Vander Griend; Dora, Mrs. Henry De Haan. Nick Mantel, Minnie Mantel and Cornie Mantel, all living in or near Orange City.

Surviving also are her sisters, Mrs. W. Huisman, Mrs. Haarsma, Mrs. C. Aalberts, and Mrs. A. Jonker of Orange City. Three sisters Mrs. John Klopper, Mrs. Wouter Sas and Mrs. Fred Jansma and 1 brother Jacob Groot preceded her in death. The deceased leaves 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 25, at 1 P.M. at the home and 1:30 P.M. in the First Reformed Church with Reverend H. Colenbrander officiating. Interment was made in the local cemetery.
