Jacob Mantel, 84, died Monday in a local hospital after a six week illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday in the Peter Vander Zwaag home at 1 o’clock and in the First Reformed Church at 1:30 with Reverend H. Colenbrander and Reverend Gerrit Doctor of Hospers officiating. Van Etten Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the Orange City Cemetery.

He was born in Holland and came to this country with his wife, nee Elizabeth Groot, 56 years ago. They first farmed near Middleburg and then at Newkirk. Later they moved to Orange City. They are the parents of four daughters and two sons, all surviving: Kate (Mrs. Peter Vander Zwaag), Ella (Mrs. Andrew Vander Griend), Dora (Mrs. Henry De Haan) of Hospers, Minnie (Mrs. Henry Huisman). Nic and Cornie Mantel died in January, 1944. Also left are 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
