DEATH CALLS JOSEPH MAJOR--PASSED AWAY THIS MORNING AT HOME OF NEPHEW, JOHN HODGSON

Joseph Major, a resident of Hawarden for the past 15 years, passed away at the home of his nephew, John Hodgson at 5:30 this morning. He had been in failing health for about a year and the past month he failed steadily but was up and about the house Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held at the Barnard Funeral Home Sunday afternoon with Reverend Ewing Holland of the Baptist Church in charge. Interment will be in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Joseph Major was born in England July 1, 1857, and so was some past 83 years of age at the time of his death. He came to America with his parents when a small boy and they located at Clarksville, Iowa. He made five or six trips back to his native land and one time he remained in England for two or three years. Later he made his home with a sister at at Marble Rock, Iowa, but 15 years ago he came to Hawarden and made his home with his sister, Mrs. William Hodgson, until four years ago, since when he has made his home with his nephew, John Hodgson. During the past weeks Mrs. William Hodgson helped care for him. The only surviving member of his family is his sister, Mrs. Hodgson, and he also leaves a number of nephews and a niece, three of whom, John and Guy Hodgson and Mrs. M.M. Wingler, reside here. He never married.
