OLD TIME HULL MAN DIED SATURDAY AT HOME IN TRAER

Henry Mackie, father of Gordon H. Mackie of this place, died at his home at Traer, Iowa, last Saturday. Mr. Mackie was a long time resident of Hull, many years ago and while here conducted a dray line.

The remains were brought to Hull Tuesday and interred in Hope Cemetery with short services conducted by Reverend R.A. Jager, in the cemetery chapel. John De Koster, G.S. De Mots, Henry Dahl and C.O. Sawyer were the pallbearers. The Index joins the many friends of the bereaved wife and children in extending sincere sympathy.

Obituary:

William Henry Mackie, son of George and Margaret Mackie , was born in West Montrose, Ontario Canada on October 20, 1862 and died in his home at Traer, Iowa, on Saturday, April 29, 1939, aged 76 years, 4 months and 9 days. He was one of a family of eleven children composed of seven sons and four daughters, all of whom have preceded him in death but three brothers. He grew to manhood and finished his education in Ontario, after which in March 1883 he came to Iowa.

On February 11, 1885, he was united in marriage to Miss Grace Carver at Canton, South Dakota. The family lived in Hull until 1919 when they moved to Lake Mills, Iowa. In December, 1931, Mr. and Mrs. Mackie moved to Traer, Iowa, where they have since resided.

To them were born three daughters and one son, Edna, the oldest daughter died on September 28, 1909.

Mr. Mackie took a prominent part in civic affairs in the earlier years of his life, holding for sometime a place on the Hull Town Council and was ready to promote any project he deemed helpful in the advancement of the general good. In this days of health and activity he was also active in the work of the Knights of Pythias and Odd Fellows Lodges.

He survived by his widow and two daughters: Mrs. Amber Wood of Traer, Iowa and Miss Neva, a teacher at Rettendorf, Iowa; and one son, Gordon, of Hull, Iowa. Also his brothers: James of Mexico, Missouri, and twin brothers, Edward and Edwin of Newark, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Milton and Shirley Ann Mackie, and nephews and nieces and other relatives.
