Dick Koenen, 88, of Rock Valley died Monday, July 4, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Services were Thursday at the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with the Reverend John Den Hoed officiating. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley.

Koenen was born October 7, 1905 in Amersfoort, The Netherlands, the son of Elburtus and Maria (Beck) Koenen. He came to America, to the Rock Valley area, with his family in September 1910. He married Jeanette Ymker on November 27, 1942, in Armour, South Dakota. She died on August 9, 1986. They farmed northwest of Rock Valley. He moved to Valley Manor in Rock Valley in November 1993. Survivors include a son and his wife, Wayne and Audrey of Rock Valley; two daughters and their husbands, Mary and Marion Hoogendoorn of Rock Valley and Joane and Ward Taylor of Ireton; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bert; three sisters, Bertha Koenen, Gertrude Asche and infant Maria Koenen; and a great-granddaughter, Amy Ymker.
