Died: July 30, 2007

Joyce Cambier Bradley passed away peacefully in Santa Barbara, California, on July 30, following the effects of lung cancer and a stroke. No services are planned.

Joyce was born on August 7, 1923, and her story begins in Orange City, as the second child of John Wagner Cambier and Ruth DeKruif Cambier.

After starting college at Grinnell and some work at Iowa State, she graduated from UCLA with an economics major.

Her first employer was the Rand Corporation, still in its infancy, and she became employee number 84 in the prestigious firm, with an assignment to do cost analysis.

It was at Rand that Joyce met her husband Harry, a sweet and brilliant man, who preceded her in passing on 20 years ago.

In 1957, the Bradley family, now including son Bill, moved to Santa Barbara. Their second son Richard was born in Cottage Hospital.

Joyce went to work for the unemployment Development Department after raising her sons. Her favorite post was at the intake window, where her comforting, friendly manner seemed to open people’s hearts. Joyce served the high and the low, and in retirement, she had many heartwarming experiences of having people say, “I still remember when you kindly helped me at the Employment Development Department.”

Joyce lived most recently at the Samark and Retirement Community, where she enjoyed making new friends and staying in close contact with her many long-time friends.

Her brother John Wagner Cambier, Jr., precedes Joyce in death.

Joyce is survived by her son Richard and daughter-in-law Julie of San Jose, California, and her grandchildren Jared and David.
