Ireton, Iowa: Sam Byker, 83 of Ireton died Saturday in a hospital at Sioux Center.

Services were held Tuesday in the Christian Reformed Church at Ireton. The Rev. Bernard Fynaardt officiated. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery under direction of the Dow Funeral Home of Ireton.

Mr. Byker was born Feb. 26, 1898 in Twyszel, Province Friesland, The Netherlands. He came to the United States and the Ireton area March 29, 1921. He married Marie Hooyer, Feb. 23, 1928 at Sioux Center. They farmed in the Ireton area moving into town in 1956.

He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gerrit, Marion and Gilbert, all of Hawarden; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Alice Tjerdsma of Miami, FL; Mrs. Hannah Posthumus of Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada; Mrs. Hilda Vander Meer of The Netherlands and Coba Postma of Dokum, Friesland, The Netherlands; and two brothers, Renze of The Netherlands and Al of Grand Rapids, MI.

Sam Byker, the son of Gerrit and Grietje Huizenga Byker, was born February 26, 1898 at Twyzel Provcie Freesland in the Netherlands and passed away December 26, 1981 at the Sioux Center, Iowa Hospital at the age of 83 years......Sam is survived by his wife, Marie;...four sisters, Alice Tjeerdsma, Anna Posthumus, Hilda Vander Meer and Coba Postma....He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
