Education: Attended school in Vallejo, CA until 1977, when his family moved to Missouri Valley, IA. There, he attended the Logan-Magnolia (IA) school system and graduated from high school in May 1987. He continued his education at Dana College, Blair, NE and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Communication and Organization Management in 1991.

Religious affiliation: Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod

Marriage: Sharon Marie Weis; Aug. 15, 1992; Portsmouth, IA

Employment: Besides assisting on the family farm while growing up, Troy was also employed during summer months in his high school and early college years by Garst Seed Corn Company in their seed corn operation. As an adult, he did row crop farming and raised feed cattle and bucket calves. He also founded the now-highly successful business in Missouri Valley, IA of changing raw limestone into pelletized limestone for sale as an essential component of a well-balanced soil fertilizer program.

Hobbies/Interests: Loved to fish and hunt; was previously a member of the Missouri Valley Volunteer Fire Department; was a very active member of Kiwanis, serving his third term as president at the time of his death, and growing it to be the most robust Kiwanis club in the entire Nebraska/Iowa Kiwanis.
