Military service: Enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served on the USS John R. Craig (DD-885, Destroyer) during the Vietnam War, and later in Korea; he achieved the rank of MM3 E-4 and was honorably discharged after his 4 years of service

Employment: After his military service, Lee worked for American Builders, Atlantic, IA for 16 years until they closed and then for Fence Master, Manning, IA for 4 years until they closed. Lee next worked for the Kimballton Auction Company, Kimballton, IA and for Nissan Sanitation in Elk Horn, IA until his retirement.
