Funeral services for Zelmer L. "Zip" Spencer, 70, Davenport and formerly of Rochester, were held June 24, 1996 at McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home in Bettendorf, with Bishop Greg Thrap officiating. Pallbearers were John and Darryn Tigrett; and John, Rick, Ted and David Harris. Burial was in the Davenport Memorial Park.
Mr. Spencer died June 16 at Genesis Medical Center East in Davenport.
The son of Andrew and Mary Moses Spencer, he was born June 9, 1926 in Davenport. He married Dorothea Darlene Schmidt June 5, 1948 in Muscatine.
Mr. Spencer retired in 1990 from the General Electric Service shop, formerly of Eldridge, where he was an industrial repairman. He was employed with the shop for 35 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, where he received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Spencer is survived by his wife; 2 daughters, Selinda "Cindy" Worden, Davenport and Diana Kay Tigrett, Atalissa; 5 grandchildren, John, Darryn and Kay Tigrett, Mary Tigrett Hansen and Trevor Cee, and 5 great-grandchildren, Shannon, Kimberly and Jessica Tigrett, J. W. Hansen and William Wiegand.
