Leo Ertl, 69, Killed when Hit by Tree
Bettendorf Man is Victim of Accident on Mississippi Avenue
Leopold "Leo" Ertl, 60 [sic], Bettendorf, was fatally injured shortly before noon Tuesday when struck by a falling limb while trimming a tree in the 1000 block on Mississippi avenue, Davenport. He was employed by H. G. Pauli & Sons, florists, 2125 Eastern avenue. He died enroute to St. Luke's hospital in a city ambulance.
The exact cause of his death was not known, but he was believed to have suffered internal injuries. Scott county Coroner Frank C. Keppy investigated and indicated there would be no inquest.
The body was removed to the McGinnis mortuary pending funeral arrangements.
Born in Drosing, Austria, March 20, 1879, Mr. Ertl came to this country in 1911 and had resided in Bettendorf since 1913. His home was at 1507 Brown street. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes church. He had been employed by the Pauli florists for some time.
Surviving are the widow, the former Hedweck Gall Peteria, whom he married in Bettendorf in October, 1927; a daughter, Marie Ertl, in Austria; a step-son, Frank Peteria, at home, a sister, Theresia Schestack, also in Austria; and a brother, George, Bettendorf, and a number of nieces and nephews.
