Evelyn L. Dodds, 88, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the Iowa Masonic Home in Bettendorf, Iowa.

A memorial service celebrating Evelyn's life will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, July 14, 2018, at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church. A private family burial will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, Iowa. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.

Evelyn Louise Hans was born on April 29, 1930 in Elwood, Iowa, to Herman and Louise (Behnke) Hans. She was educated in the Elwood schools and married Leonard W. Dodds on June 28, 1947 in Maquoketa, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Denny, Denyse, Diane and Dawn.

Evelyn first worked as waitress for area restaurants for many years. She and her husband Leonard then owned and operated Dodds' Café for nine years, and lastly she worked as a Personal Lines Rater for Iowa Mutual Insurance in DeWitt for over ten years until retirement.

Evelyn was a member of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. She loved playing cards and bridge, crocheting and doing plastic canvas, and most importantly loved dancing with her husband Leonard.

Those left to honor Evelyn's memory include her children, Denny (and wife Joan) Dodds of Maquoketa, IA, Denyse (and husband Dick) Walker of Bettendorf, IA, Diane (and husband Stanley) Summer of DeWitt, IA, and Dawn (and husband Robert Drake) Suthers of La Place, LA; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Maxine Wagner of Dubuque, IA, Edna Hans of Davenport, IA, and Marvella Hans of Ankeny, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard on July 14, 2000, brothers Carl and George Hans, a step-brother Fred Wiedemen, and sisters Elsie Knutsen, Gladys Prussia, Hilda Prussia, and Edith Rorah.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, an Evelyn L. Dodds memorial fund has been established.
