DAVENPORT - Memorial services to celebrate the life of Bonnie Grove Rodriguez, 73, a resident of Davenport, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:15 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Bonnie died Friday, April 15, 2011, at her residence following a brief illness.

Bonnie Colleen Grove was born on January 3, 1938, in Rock Island, a daughter of Garnett and Hattie (Mason) Grove. She was the feature baton twirler at the University of Mississippi. Bonnie was united in marriage to William
Mockbee in 1974. She later married Michael Rodriguez, Sr. on August 14, 1998, in Moline.

Bonnie had worked in a clerical position most of her adult life, most recently for the Mississippi Blues Society doing event planning.

Bonnie was a National Champion Baton Twirler in the 1950s, and she stayed active in the field by teaching students the art of twirling and judging national tournaments. She also enjoyed dance and sewing. In the last few years, Bonnie was the ultimate caregiver to her husband, Michael, providing care that one could only give out of true love.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United States Twirling Association, 18511 S.R. 501 Wapakoneta, OH 45895.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Michael Rodriguez, Sr., Davenport; son, Michael Mockbee, Minneapolis, Minn.; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Adrian Russo, Silver Springs, Md.; stepchildren, Tony Rodriguez, Monica Aguirre, Martha Adams, Becky Stender, Linda Cawiezell, Ray Rodriguez, Laura Holst,
Martin Rodriguez, Renee Seline and Angela Finch; special cousins, Pat and Kathy Malmloff; and numerous other cousins.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Richard Grove, and a stepson, Michael Rodriguez, Jr.
