Dubuque Daily Times, Wednesday, April 26, 1876, Dubuque, Iowa, Page: 3

For three years Claus Stook, of Davenport, has been tolling early and late, to buy a farm and build a home for his sweetheart. A few weeks ago he received a letter from her stating that she had married another. On the night of the 7th, about 11 o’clock, he went out of the boarding house into the back yard, and has never been seen since. He had about $500 on his person, and is believed to have drowned himself for love or been killed for his money.
