Is it Another Murder?

Davenport, Dec. 6 – Geo. R. Cowdry was arrested last night for the attempted murder of his wife on June 18th last. At that time it was supposed that Mrs. Cowdry attempted suicide. They lived unhappily and had a quarrel that morning. At the preliminary examination before Justice Kaufman this afternoon, Mr. C. testified that she desired to shield her husband, and told the doctor and neighbor she shot herself that morning. The next day her husband left the city and returned on Monday last. She has supported herself ever since, and would not have prosecuted her husband only that his parents, as she testifies, are trying to injure her character. The examination will take a couple of days. Cowdry is under bail.
