MILTON JOSIAH ADAMS, D. D. S.

DR. ADAMS was born in Muscatine, Iowa, February 24, 1861, a son of Jonathan and Mary ( Petitt) Adams. His father was a carriage manufacturer, and a prosperous and respected citizen, who died in Muscatine in 1886. Mrs. Adams is still residing in Muscatine. The children of Jonathan Adams were Dallas, Archie, Helen , Sarah and Lycurgus, the latter now dead. Helen is married to C. M. Gould, the agent of the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad at Muscatine. The parents of Dr. Adams came West from Pennsylvania.

The public schools supplied the educational facilities which he enjoyed in early life and when he left school he worked at the trade of book- binding at Muscatine for two years. He then took a fancy to the profession of dentistry, and entered the office of Dr. J. S. Kulp, a prominent dentist in his native town, and remained in that office for two years. From there he went to Cincinnati, entering the Cincinnati College of Dental Surgery in 1879, taking a one year's course. In 1880 he came to Davenport and practiced with Dr. W. O. Kulp for about five years. From here he went to Spirit Lake, Iowa, opening an office and practicing for nine months at that place. He then returned to Muscatine, where he was again in Dr. Kulp's office for one year, and then came back to Davenport to renew his association with Dr. Kulp here. He opened his own dental office in 1890.

Dr. Adams was married to Miss Laura Dewitt of Muscatine on the eighteenth day of August, 1885. They have two children , a boy, Fred, aged five years, and a girl, Marguerite, aged one year.

Dr. Adams' time and attention are given exclusively to the study and practice of his profession . He makes no pretense of being a public man, and has never sought or held public office.
