MRS. FOREST SMITH

Verna D. Smith, daughter of G. W. and Harriet Meadows Allen was born July 5, 1891, at Goodland, Kan., and departed this life October 31, 1969, in the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines after a four weeks' illness. She was 78 years, three months and 26 days of age.

She came with her family to Iowa at an early age and spent the rest of her life in Monroe township until retirement in 1946, at which time they moved to Kellerton.

In 1915 she united with the United Methodist Church and was an active church member and Sunday school teacher and a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, of which she had been a member since 1923.

On February 24, 1915, she was united in marriage with Forest D. Smith in the home of her parents and of this union were born three daughters and a son.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Winnie.

Left mourn her death are her husband, Forest; four children - Evelyn Kilgore of Marysville, Calif., Willette Curl of Centerville, Audra Lee Collings of St. Joseph, Mo., and Robert Eugene Smith of Des Moines; two brothers, Orr and Leo Allen of Kellerton, two sisters, Lois Hughes of Kellerton and Viva Jensen of Decatur, 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held November 3 from the Kellerton United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Sheridan M. Mallott. Music was provided by Mrs. Harold Foland and Mrs. Ronald Kaster, Vocalists and Mrs. Weldon Meadows, organist. Mrs. Ruth Holmes, Mrs. Sam Merrill and Mrs. Chester Gibson were in charge of the flowers and casket bearers were Arlen Hughes, Allen Hughes, Don Allen, Billy Jensen, Dennis Jensen and John Jensen. Burial was in the Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton
