William Earl Smith, 80, of Summerville, SC, United States Air Force, Retired and husband of Linda J. Newton Smith, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021.
Born on March 9, 1941 in Charleston, SC, Bill was the son of the late George Smith and Nora Belle Huff Smith.

Bill belonged to numerous organizations in his lifetime. He was a 32-degree Mason for over 50 years and a Past Master of the Orange-Charles Towne Lodge No. 14. Bill joined the Masons in Europe and was both York Rite and Scottish Rite. He was a Past Patron – Order of the Eastern Star, Shriner – Men with Funny Red Hats and was an American Legion Commander. Bill was a designer of a beautiful Veteran’s Memorial in Kellerton Cemetery and was a member of Charleston Heights Baptist Church in North Charleston, SC.

Bill was employed many places as an electrician. In the United States Air Force bill was a Crypto Technician Supervisor and retired from Charleston Air Force Base in 1983 as a top enlisted E8. After the military, Bill held several teaching positions including Trident Technical College, The Citadel and Bosche. He was also a real estate salesperson.

Bill obtained and A.A. in Business from American River Junior College, a Bachelor Degree in Business from Golden Gate University and a Master’s Degree in Management from Golden Gate University, Sacramento/San Francisco.

In addition to his parents and wife of 55 years, Linda, Bill is survived by sisters, Sallie Elizabeth Hicks of Charleston, SC and Geneva Boggs of Roanoke, VA; brother, George F. Smith and wife Gracie of Summerville, SC; brother in law, Ace Newton of Iowa; sister in law, Minerva Newton Logan of Iowa.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00am on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Carolina Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremation located at 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. 843-797-2222. Bill’s Celebration of Life will follow immediately in the chapel. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park.
