OBITUARY ~ THEOLA MAXINE (HIGHTSHOE) FOLTZ-WEEDA
March 26, 1926 ~ March 06, 2018

Theola Maxine Hightshoe Foltz Weeda, 91, of Mount Ayr, Iowa passed away at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Theola was born March 26, 1926 on a farm between Kellerton and Lamoni, Iowa to Ted and Bertha (Maggard) Hightshoe. She was the oldest of their six children. During high school, her family moved to Ringgold County where she graduated from Mount Ayr High School with the class of 1944. She went on to teach at the Urbana Country School south of Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club. After three years, she went on to a teaching assignment at Terre Haute in Decatur County, then to Hickory Grove Country School for two years.

On March 26, 1950, Theola was united in marriage to Harold Wayne Foltz, son of Harold and Louise (Robinson) Foltz. To this union were born two children, a son Larry Dean Foltz and a daughter Mary Lee Foltz. Larry was one of the originators of the Woodlink factory in Mount Ayr and Mary Lee is a cosmetologist and was a part owner of Hair Tech Beauty School in Creston, Iowa. During their marriage, Wayne and Theola lived at the Robinson Family Farm and lived there happily together until Wayne’s health began to fail. They were full time farmers with Theola substitute teaching at the Mount Ayr School, well into her 80’s, she loved every day of it and met many wonderful students, parents, and teachers. Wayne lost his ten-year battle of Alzheimer’s on February 1, 1983. In 1983, Theola married Lloyd Weeda and continued to farm.

For seven years, Theola was Head Coordinator at the Youth Center at the Iowa State Fair. In 2004, Theola sold the farm and moved to Heritage Park Senior Apartment Complex in Mount Ayr where she participated in and enjoyed many activities several days a week, such as pitch, bingo, and dominoes. She also enjoyed attending the fellowship that occurred at the center. Theola was a member of Wishard Chapel Church in Mount Ayr and participated in many groups.

Theola is survived by her daughter, Mary Lee Foltz: granddaughter Elizabeth Foltz (Ryan Whitham); brothers David (Shirley) Hightshoe of Mt Ayr, Ed (Gay) Hightshoe of Unionville, Mo.; brother-in-law Skip Eason of Waukee; sister-in-law Myrtle Hightshoe Smith of Shirley, Arkansas; sister-in-law Hazel Foltz of Des Moines; stepdaughter Karen Pettinger, granddaughter Oakel (Jordan) Kralik; great-grandsons Keaton and Kelton Kralik; daughter-in-law Deb (Kevin) Creveling and a host of family and friends.

Theola was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Foltz; son Larry Dean Foltz; husband Lloyd Weeda; sister Donna Eason; parents Ted and Bertha Hightshoe; parents-in-law Harold and Louise Foltz; Mary Foltz, brother Chris Hightshoe and brother & sister-in-law, Ted (Twila) Hightshoe Jr; brother-in-law Claire Foltz; sister-in-law Mary Lou (Foltz) Weeda.

A memorial has been established in Theola’s name.

Services were conducted 11:00 a.m. – Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Armstrong Funeral Home – Mount Ayr, Pastor Bill Armstrong officiating.

Open Visitation: 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Thur, March 8 Family Present: 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Thur, March 8 at Armstrong Funeral Home

Memorial: In her name to be decided later

[Interment was made at Tingley Cemetery, Tingley, Iowa.]
