Thursday, January 17, 2018OBITUARY ~ NORMA LUCILLE (JONES) SHAY
November 29, 1921 ~ January 11, 2018Norma Lucille Shay, daughter of Trevor Lee and Mildred Rachel (King) Jones, was born November 29, 1921 at Wabash, Indiana. Norma graduated from Central High School at Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Norma met Robert Thomas Shay while he was in the military and they were married on December 31, 1944. They returned to Robert’s home and they lived on a farm southwest of Benton and raised a family. Norma would later work as a clerk in stores; cooked at Clearview Homes and worked at the Cap Factory.
Norma and Robert moved off the farm in 1996 and lived in Creston. Robert passed away July 6, 2001. Norma has lived in Des Moines, Iowa since 2006.
Norma passed away January 11, 2018 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings Gloria, Leolus, and Barbara.
Survivors include her children Janice L. (David) Lindemoen of Des Moines, IA, Bob Shay of Tingley, IA, and Carol (Jim) Sheldon of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren Victoria (Scott) Jakovich, Patricia (Mark) Prater, Roby (Natalie) Shay, Cody (Karen) Shay, Tory (Brandi) Shay, Cassidy (Angie) Shay, Hollie (Bret) Weitzell, and Melanie Clay; great grandchildren include Kelsy, Luke, Brady Shay, Addison, Adler, Adden Shay, Caden, Kinsie, Kinley Shay, Brianna and Regan Gaskill; siblings Trevor (Nancy) Jones of Wabash, IN, Tommy (Nancy) Jones of Wabash, IN, and Vickie Jackson of Wabash, IN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorials are to Taylor House Hospice, 3401 E Douglas Ave, Des Moines, Iowa 50317
Mass of Christian Burial was held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Mount Ayr, Iowa, 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2018 with Fr. Thomas Dooley, officiant. The readings were done by Jan Ford and Joan Jackson. Gift bearers were Hollie Weitzell, Melanie Clay, Brianna and Regan Gaskill. Music was provided by Nancy Sackett and Korbie Rinehart.
Honorary Pallbearers were David Lindemoen, Jim Sheldon, Roby Shay, Cody Shay, Tory Shay and Cassidy Shay.
Place of rest is at the Saint Mary Cemetery, Maloy, Iowa.
