Lyman Henry Baker 1898-1981

Lyman H. Baker was born to Wm. and Dove Baker of Grand River, Iowa on July 20, 1989. He lived for 83 years, five months, a full life, finally claimed by a congestive heart failure while in Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on December 20, 1981. His advancing age and lung and heart condition were not confining; indeed, his presence in Mercy was for a routine semi-annual checkup.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.

Lyman was a longtime resident of Ringgold County. He retired in 1966 as a County Heavy Equipment Operator, after have served for 40 years in that capacity.

In 1921 he was united in marriage to Ethel Daniels, who preceded him in death in 1927. To this union two daughters were born, Evelyn Bradley of Minneapolis, Minn. and Rosemary Blauer of Key Largo, Florida.

On February 18, 1931 Lyman was united in marriage to Helen Bacon, who preceded him in death in 1966. To this union one daughter and seven sons were born. Left to mourn his passing are his children - Gerald of Ankeny, Iowa, Cheryl (Mrs. Robert Smith) and Dick of Des Moines, Iowa; Bob of Osceola, Iowa, R. D. of Blue Springs, Missouri, Darrel of Gainsville, Florida, Kenneth of Jefferson, Iowa, Terry of Broomfield, Colo. and Evelyn and Rosemary. There are 27 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends from all South Iowa and from the Minnesota Lakes to the Florida beaches.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1981 from the United Methodist Church at Kellerton, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Walter Zarr. Music was provided by Joyce Kaster, accompanied by Mrs. Weldon Meadows.

Casketbearers were John Blauer, Larry Blauer, Randy Baker, Doug Smith, Chris Baker, Rodney Baker, and Jim Baker. Interment was in Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton, Iowa.
