Earlene Jahlas (1933-2022)

A visitation will begin at 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Smith Funeral Home - Victor, with family present from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Earlene Jahlas Memorial Fund.

Earlene Elizabeth Heitman was born May 16, 1933 to Earl and Edna (Weidemeier) Heitman on their family farm near Williamsburg, IA. She attended country school and Ladora Highschool.

On January 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to Laverne Clark Jahlas, at St. John’s Lutheran Church; a union of 68 years. The couple lived near Deep River and moved to Victor in 1961 while raising their six children.

Earlene held a strong faith in God, she was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church where she assisted in alter duties, Ladies Aid, Fellowship Club and cleaning. Earlene loved her family and baking, she was known for her cinnamon rolls, pecan rolls and butterhorns. She was able to share her food with many while she worked as a cook for the Victoria Inn, Star Inn, Dickies, and the Big G. She enjoyed shopping, crafting, and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens.

Left to cherish Earlene’s memory are five children, Vickie (Bill) Roberts of Victor, Kevin (LuAnn) Jahlas of Brooklyn, Kim (Chris) Jahlas of Victor, Rick (Renee) Jahlas of Belle Plaine, and Brad (Connie) Jahlas of Victor; a son-in-law, Dan Scandridge of Hartwick; one sister, Karen (Bill) Westerdale; 12 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

Earlene was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Edna; step-father, Arthur Cheney; husband, LaVerne; one daughter, Connie Scandridge; one brother, Larry Cheney; and two grandsons, Joshua and Kyle.
