Joyce, age 97, passed away November 17, 2019, at the New Brighton Care Center where she has lived for the past year.
A private family Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John’s Church in New Brighton, Minnesota, on November 25. A graveside service will be held in the spring in Brooklyn, Iowa.
Joyce was born on May 20, 1922, in Omaha, Nebraska, to the late John Lars Ibson and Irene Etta Ibson. At age five, the family moved to Brooklyn, Iowa, where she graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1940. Joyce was united in marriage to Marcel Lavent on June 15, 1940, at St. Patrick’s Church in Brooklyn. They later moved to Grinnell, Iowa, where she worked for General Telephone Company for 25 years.
Joyce continued to live in Iowa most of her life until her son Donald died in 2010, then moved to New Brighton, Minnesota, to be near her daughter Brenda.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Brenda (Larry) Wallace of New Brighton, Minnesota; her five grandchildren, David (Christine) Fleischacker of Bismarck, North Dakota, Michael (Natalie) Fleischacker of New Hope, Pennsylvania, Melissa McClellan of Blaine, Minnesota, Anita White of Howard Lake, Minnesota, and Nancy Lavent Harter of Brooklyn, Iowa; 15 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marcel in 1989; son Donald in 2010; and only sister Patty in September, 2019.
