DOROTHY SISCO

Dorothy Sisco, 93, of Grinnell died Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 18, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Johnston officiating. Casket bearers were Gary Elliott, Richard Elliott, Delbert Green, Rick Green, Cody Pinkerton and T.J. Pinkerton. Honorary bearers were Chuck Elliott, Dennis Elliott, Duane Elliott, Kurt Elliott, Ralph Elliott and Rick Elliott. Interment followed at Rock Creek Cemetery west of Grinnell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dorothy M. Sisco Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be submitted on the Smith Funeral Home website at www.smithhfh.com.

She was born Jan. 6, 1913, the daughter of Homer and Ethel Nutt Elliott in rural Jasper County near Kellogg. She was raised on the farm and educated in a rural school near her home. The family moved to Akron, Colo., during her childhood, then returned to Grinnell. After attending Grinnell schools, she graduated from Grinnell High School. She was united in marriage with Shirley W. Sisco on Nov. 26, 1930, in Marshalltown. To this union were born four children, Wesley, Hollis, Charles and Gretta. The couple enjoyed going to dances and traveling to Colorado.

She enjoyed painting, playing the piano and singing. She had a special love for horses, and rode to and from school on her horse when she was young.

She is survived by one son, Hollis Sisco of Grinnell, and one daughter, Gretta Embree of Columbia, Mo.; three brothers, Delbert Elliott of Winter Springs, Fla., and Paul Elliott and Kenneth Elliott of Grinnell; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Shirley; two sons, Wesley and Charles Sisco; two brothers, Hollis and Raymond Elliott and one sister, Marjorie Beaver.
