MELINDA M. SHOWALTER, 52

Mrs. Melinda M. Showalter, 52, of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, in Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines.

Funeral services for Melinda Showalter were held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. The Rev. John Dodds and the Rev. David Rogula officiated. The musician was Angie Radcliffe and the soloist was Shannon Webber. Selections were "I Can Only Imagine," and "Believe." Honorary casket-bearer was Tony Funke. Casket-bearers were Steve Link, Dean Huls, Darrel Heetland, Jim Deitrick, Mike Yilek and Steve Bruggeman. Interment was in Rector Cemetery, rural Chelsea.

A memorial fund has been established. Nevenhoven Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Melinda Marie Baustian Showalter was born May 18, 1956, in Grinnell. The daughter of Lorraine (Magee) and Marilyn (Gwin) Baustian, Melinda received education in Guernsey and BGM Schools, graduating in the class of 1974. On May 2, 1981, she was married to Gary Showalter in Guernsey. They are the parents of three children, Caitlynne, Tanner and Delaney.

Melinda was employed at TIP REC in Brooklyn as an executive secretary for 34 years. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for 16 years. She was active in youth softball, basketball and soccer, where she coached and served as the AYSO regional registrar. Melinda enjoyed being involved with her children and the youth of the community, and spending time with family and friends.

Melinda was preceded in death by her sister, Melissa Joy Hendricks.

She is survived by her husband, Gary; her three children, Caitlynne, Tanner and Delaney; her parents, Magee and Marilyn Baustian of Deep River; three brothers, Bruce (Marlene) Baustian of Brooklyn, Brian Baustian of Brooklyn, and Brent (Hillary) Baustian of Walford; two brothers-in-law, John Hendricks of Waukee, and Fred (Becky) Showalter of Ely; and 12 nieces and nephews.
