ROBERT MORRIS

Robert W. Morris, 70, of Marshalltown, a native of Grinnell, did Friday, Nov. 25, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church in Marshalltown, with the Rev. Greg Ellcey officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Company C 234th Sig. Bn. color guard.

The son of Jesse W. and Marie Hagedorn Morris, he was born Oct. 8, 1924, in Grinnell. He was raised in the Grinnell and Newton area and was a 1943 graduate of Newton High School.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1946, serving as a medical/surgical technician at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco.

He was married to Beverly Jeanne Brooks Sept. 17, 1946, in Marshalltown. He continued his service in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, he farmed near Melbourne for several years and later operated Automotive Services and worked as an insurance investigator. He worked for Bowman Products for 16 years as a sales representative and later worked for Meeker Laundry as a sales and route manager. He retired in 1987.

Mr. Morris was a member of the First Congregational Church, serving as deacon, and B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 312 of Marshalltown. He was a charter member of the Matins Kiwanis Club and was also a member of the Frank Lewis Glick Post No. 46 of the American Legion and the Kellogg Historical Society. He was past Sunday school superintendent of the Melbourne United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Jill Hansen of Fulton, Ill.; one son, Jeffrey of Marshalltown; two granddaughters; and one brother, Don of Boone. He was preceded in death by his parents.
