DR. IRA C. BROWN

Dr. Ira Brown Dies Phoenix, Arizona--The following article was clipped from a Phoenix, Arizona newspaper and with a letter written February 14, by Mrs. Ira Brown was mailed to this office.

Dr. Ira Brown, 69, veterinary surgeon and former Phoenix city meat inspector, died Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Ross, 315 E. Belmont. He had been ill since December.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Memory Chapel, A.L. Moore and Sons Mortuary, 333 W. Adams; Dr. Charles S. Kendall and the Masonic Funeral Committee will officiate. Burial will be in Memory Lawn Memorial Park.

Dr. Brown, a native of Iowa, practiced in Afton, and Grinnell, Iowa, from 1913 to 1924; he was assistant state veterinarian in Iowa. Dr. Brown came to Phoenix in 1947 and became Phoenix city meat inspector for the Maricopa County Health Department.

He moved to Coolidge in 1949 where he practiced until December 14, 1951, when he became ill and was moved to the home of his daughter in Phoenix.

Dr. Brown was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Royal Arch Masons, the Odd Fellows Lodge, the Rebekah Lodge and the Elks in Grinnell, Iowa.

Besides his daughter, he leaves his wife, Marchie; a son, Robert Ira, both of Phoenix; three other daughters, Mrs. H.A. Whitcomb of Iowa, Mrs. C.L. Childs, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Edna Pauline Brown, Phoenix; five sisters, Winifred Snider, Adella Mason, Laura Mounts, Zilpha Porter Griep, Olive Gustin and four brothers, Frank, Orrin, Elijah and William Brown, all living out of state.

Dr. Brown was a devoted husband and father who placed his family above all else in life. He practiced a life of love and devotion, not only to his wife and children, but also to his parents, brothers and sisters. Being the oldest son of a family of 12 children, he guided his brothers and sisters as a father. His responsibilities were two-fold, his family and his profession of Veterinary Medicine, which he practiced for 41 years. He was a life member of the Methodist Church. He was active, industrious and honest in all his dealings with his fellowmen.

His life was a fulfillment of an honorable and constructive pattern of life from which he received full pleasure and happiness for himself as well as for those whom he loved.
