DIES AT PARSONS

Elmore Chapman Read died at his home in Parson, Kansas, June 14, 1926, after having been confined to the house and most of the time to his bed for three and one half moths with rheumatism and neuritis combined.

He was born in Genoa, Wisconsin, and was 75 years old last October 26. He lived with his parents in Grinnell from April 1865 to 1867. He attended Grinnell College for a time. He married May 27, 1872, Ella C. Bailey, who is a sister of Gertrude L. and Jennie Bailey and the late Mrs. George T. Boggs/Baggs? and of W.D. Bailey of Duluth, Minnesota.

In 1923 Mr. and Mrs. Read quietly celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. This was the only golden wedding for generations on either side of the family.

Mr. Read resided in Parsons for more than forty years, having gone there in 1885. He was a traveling salesman for many years for dry goods firms of Kansas City. In January, 1904, he went into business for himself in Parsons. He retired from business only a few years ago on account of failing strength. He had one of the largest libraries in Parsons.

He is survived by his wife and four sons, all of whom are married: Arthur B. of Sedan, Kansas; Elmer W. of Portland, Ore.; Lewis F. of Montana, Kans.; and Howard K. who is cashier of the West Side Union State Bank of Parsons. One son, Raymond C., died in infancy. He is also survived by nine grand-children and two great grand-children.
