REV. ROSS HARTMAN
DIES EARLY MONDAY

The Rev. Ross B. Hartman,70, of Buckley Hall at the Mayflower Home, died early Monday morning, April 22, at Grinnell General Hospital East, after several months illness.

The son of Lyman J. and Della Baker Hartman, Mr. Hartman was born on a farm in northern Ohio, on Aug. 20, 1897. During his infancy, the family moved to nearby Wadsworth, Ohio, and that was his home for the next 27 years. He took his college work at Oberlin, and his seminary work at the Oberlin Graduate School of Theology and the Yale Divinity School.

On Sept. 14, 1926, he was married to Edna D. Neuenschwander at Chardon, Ohio. To this union were born two daughters: Mrs. John (Edna Louise) Contrady of Muskegon, Mich., and a daughter who passed away in infancy.

Mr. Hartman had served 8 pastorates with the United Church of Christ (Congregational)--at Hillsboro, Wis.; Chardon, Ohio; Steubenville, Ohio; Mondovi, Wis.; Wahpeton, N.Dak.; Osage, Iowa; Rock Rapids, Iowa; and his last pastorate for 10 years at Dickinson, N.Dak. He retired from full time work in January 1966, and he and Mrs. Hartman have made their home in Mayflower Home since.

Mr. Hartman was a past secretary of the Grinnell Rotary Club and the Wahpeton Masonic Lodge No. 15 AF and AM at Wahpeton, N.Dak. He has served interim pastorates since he has lived in Grinnell at Davenport, Ames and Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Edna; his daughter, and three grandchildren--Suzanne, John Ross and Gary Contrady, all of Muskegon, Mich.

Funeral services for Mr. Hartman will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Grinnell United Church of Christ (Congregational) with the Rev. Newell F. Davis, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Ralph Beebe and the Rev. Lawrence Murphy, both of the Mayflower Home, officiating.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home until Wednesday morning and thereafter at the United Church of Christ (Congregational).
