J.V. ROWE

J.V. Rowe, 86, of the Mayflower Home died Friday, May 10, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Following cremation, the ashes will be buried in Newton Union Cemetery.

Memorials maybe made to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Mayflower Home.

The son of George and Edith Russell Rowe, he was born July 11, 1903, in Early. He graduated from high school there, then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for one year.

He was married to Nina J. Steeg May 27, 1930.

Mr. Rowe had been employed by the Sun Ray Oil Co. in numerous capacities. A well-known public speaker, he was also active in Boy Scouts of America, serving as president of the Wapsipinicon Council and receiving the Silver Beaver award. He had also won honors as Boss of the Year in Waterloo and was recognized by the Sertoma? Club with its Service to Mankind Award.

Mr. Rowe, a resident of Grinnell since 1970, served as chairman of the fundraising drive to build Beebe Hall at the Mayflower Home. He was a member of the Lions Club, the First Presbyterian Church, the Grinnell 2000 Foundation, and the Senior Group of the Grinnell Area Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Jane Guy of Newton; four grandchildren; and one sister, Azure Rowe of Newton. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
