RUTH PACKARD

Ruth Packard, 101, of Grinnell died Monday, Nov. 29, at Mayflower Health Care Center.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 3, at 2:30 p.m. in Carman Center at Mayflower with the Rev. Del Dawes, retired, officiating. Pianist will be Pat Saxton. Burial will be later at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Memorials may be made to Mayflower Human Needs Fund or Grinnell United Methodist Church for organ music.

The daughter of John Edwin and Lulu Stella Woodworth Hathaway, she was bon Oct. 29, 1903, in Sioux City. She was a 1922 graduate of Central High School in Sioux City and attended Morningside College in Sioux City, later receiving a degree in music from Rockford College, Rockford, Ill. She was married to Bruce Gordon Packard on Oct. 4, 1928, in Sioux City. They resided n several communities in the Midwest where he was employed as a civil engineer with the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. They retired to Door County, Wisconsin, and for many years wintered in Mission, Texas. They moved to Mayflower in 1986.

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and a 50-year member of Rose Croix Chapter #400, Order of the Eastern Star, in Sioux City. She also was very active at Mayflower.

She is survived by three children, Patricia Yungclas and the Rev. B. Gordon Packard, both of Grinnell, and Alan Packard of Fond du Lac, Wis.; 12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Harold L. Hathaway and one great grandchild, Karen Rose Johnson.
