DORIS GILBREAITH

Doris E. Gilbreaith, 76, of 90 Fourth Ave., Grinnell, died of congestive heart failure Saturday, Feb. 1, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Melinda Cree, pastor of the Malcom Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was James L. Severe, and vocalist was Milton Severe.

Pallbearers were Dan Badger, David Bruck, Billy D. Gilbreaith, Richard Gilbreaith, Larry Manning and Edgar Sanders. Honorary bearers were Chad, Donovan, Heidi, Jason, Katie, Kevin and Kyle Gilbreaith, Brenda Peulen, Danene Thompson and Teri Wilson.

Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma.

The daughter of Henry and Dora Lippincott Strong, she was born Feb. 5, 1915, in Malcom. She attended rural school and graduated from Malcom High School.

On Oct. 5, 1933, she was married to Clyde Gilbreaith, and the couple farmed near Guernsey before living in Brooklyn and Grinnell. She worked at Midwest Manufacturing Co. in Kellogg and the food services at Friendship Manor and Grinnell College, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Malcom Methodist Church.

Mrs. Gilbreaith is survived by four sons, Bill and Richard, both of Grinnell, Gary of Montezuma and Roger of Newton; one daughter, JoAn Badger of Grinnell; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lloyd Strong of Salina, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one grandson; one brother, Elver Strong; and two sisters, Mildred Johnston and Lois Billick.
