SHERRY L. INNIS

Sherry Innis, age 63, of Grinnell, died on Friday, February 2, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 8th at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Sherry's family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday evening. Interment will be held privately at a later date at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

A free will pasta bar and silent auction will be held f rom 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Saturday, February 10th at the Grinnell Eagles.

Memorials may be designated to the Sherry L. Innis Memorial Fund and may be mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared online with her family at www.smithfh.com.

Sherry Lee Niester was born the daughter of Delmar Niester and Colleen Joyce (Roseland) Niester on December 4, 1954 in Grinnell, Iowa. She as raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1973. Following her education, Sherry was employed at Miracle Recreation in Grinnell.

Sherry was united in marriage to Roger Alan Innis on October 13, 1979 in Grinnell and the couple made their home in Grinnell. Sherry was a homemaker and later worked for the Grinnell-Newburg School District as a teacher's aid at Davis Elementary School, retiring in January of 2017.

Sherry dearly loved her family and enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities. She was a very talented musician, who sang and played the Dobro in the Rock Creek Country band. Her enjoyments were camping, scrapbooking, jet skiing, going for rides on the Harley with Roger, going on walks with her brother, Steve, and traveling, especially her trips to Cancun with her sister, Sandy.

Sherry is survived by her husband of 39 years, Roger A. Innis of Grinnell; her daughter, Kim (Dan) Kriegel of Grinnell; 4 grandchildren, Matt Innis, Shaden Wyatt, Jevin Wyatt, and Logan Kriegel; siblings, Stephen Niester of Grinnell and Sandra Niester-Zarndt of Normal, Illinois; and her dog, Koko. She was preceded in death by her parents.
