MYRTLE C. ORMISTON

Myrtle C. Ormiston, 87, of Brooklyn died Sunday, July 4, at her home.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, with the Rev. William B. Daylong officiating. Organist was Angie Hawkins; soloist was Joan Gerard and pianist was Terry Van Tomme. Casket bearers were Greg, Terry and Brian Van Tomme; Blair Hall; Matthew Ormiston; and Jeff DeWitte. Burial was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, with the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was the daughter of Albert and Mary Jepp Spading and was born March 10, 1912 on a farm southeast of Brooklyn. She received her education in rural schools and Brooklyn High School, graduating in 1930. She taught at several rural schools.

On Feb. 26, 1932, she was married to Edward James Ormiston in Grinnell. They farmed on the Ormiston farm north of Brooklyn. Mr. Ormiston died in 1945 and Mrs. Ormiston returned to teaching. She taught at Hartwick and BGM until retiring in 1977. She was a 1962 graduate of Drake University.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Columbian Club, United Methodist Women and Kum-Joy-Nus Class.

Surviving are two daughters, Evelyn Van Tomme of Brooklyn and Dona Hoover of Harrisburg Pa.; one son, Charles of Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Marie Roudabush and Gladys Paynter, both of Brooklyn.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Ross, Harvey and Marvin Spading; and two sisters, Edith Spading and Kathryn Metz.

A memorial fund has been established.
