JEFFREY RAY SPAIN

Jeffrey Ray Spain, 27, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly at his home on Aug. 27, 1999.

His funeral was Aug. 30 at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma with the Rev. H. Burr Bryan of United Methodist Church in Montezuma officiating. Kathleen Ramsey was organist.

Mike Hughes, Dan Ross, Chad Stadford, Jamie Stratton, Eric Creswell, Jon Lane, Mike McKeag and Matt Kosman were casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Randy Schmidt, Jamie Gibson, David Hutchinson, Rich Grife, Mark Kraus and Joe Kennedy.

He was buried in Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.

Born March 10, 1972, in Oskaloosa, Mr. Spain was the son of Darrell and Sherri (Ketels) Spain. He graduated from Montezuma Community High School in 1990.

He was an honor student, played trombone in marching band and jazzband and excelled in all sports. He played on the 1990 Boys State Basketball Championship Team.

He attended college at the University of Northern Iowa and Kirkwood Community College. In 1993, he moved to Cedar Rapids and began the vocation he loved. He was a construction foreman for Bill Lane Construction.

Mr. Spain was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and attended many home games. He also loved to golf and enjoyed pheasant hunting.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Maxine and Walter Ketels and Lucille and Orville Spain.

He is survived by his parents, Sherri and Darrell Spain of Montezuma; his brother, Jim Spain of Cedar Falls; three aunts; a step-grandmother; other relatives and many friends.
