MRS. CATHARINE WRIGHT

BROOKLYN CHRONICLE. - Catharine Deacon was born at Dumbarton, Scotland, November 21, 1829 and died at Brooklyn, Iowa, June 21,1907, aged 77 years and 7 months.

She was married to Robert Wright a Glasgow, Scotland July, 11, 1849. To them were born ten children, five sons and five daughters, two daughters and one son already deceased. She is also survived by an only sister, Mrs. Samuel Miller of Jersey City, N.J.

In the year 1856 Mr. and Mrs. Wright left their native land and came to New York City at which place they resided until about the year 1860 when they removed to Halifax, Nova Scotia where Mr. Wright died in the year 1869.

In the year 1870 acting under the advice of her brother, Mr. William Deacon who at that time resided a few miles north of Brooklyn, she with her family came to this place where she almost continuously resided in the home in which she just passed away. During the last 15 years she and her daughter, Belle have occupied the home alone.

Mrs. Wright joined the Scotch Presbyterian church when a young girl, continuing her membership with that church wherever she located, and after coming to Brooklyn cast her lot with the First Presbyterian church of this place. She has ever been a faithful and devoted member. She always attended religious services seldom if ever absenting herself except when physically unable to attend. Although deprived in a large degree in her loss of her sense of hearing she could be found at her accustomed place in the church, eagerly anxious to catch what might be said from the pulpit.

Her last illness was of a few weeks duration which she met with christian patience, never complaining but always very grateful for any little service rendered her.

Thirty-seven years continuous residence in the same home is something not often occurring as in this case. The church of which she was so long a member will miss her, her many friends in the community will miss her, her children who have been with her these many years will miss this Godly mother who watched over and cared for them during all this time, and they will ever cherish her blessed memory.

The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church last Sabbath afternoon conducted by her pastor, Dr. E. Benson assisted by Rev. W.L. Clapp of the M.E. church. A quartette consisting of Miss Thursia Manatt, Mr. C.W. Wilkinson and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Easton with Mrs. Coe H. Manatt as organist sang very beautifully the following selections: "Refuge," "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" and "Abide with Me." Afterward the remains were interred in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Those in attendance at the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. R.F. Wright of Pipestone, Minn., Mrs. J.A. Ricker of Denver, Col., Mr. and Mrs. Geo. H. McMurray and three sons of Grinnell, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Morgan of Davenport, Mrs. F.W. Fowler of Des Moines, Wesley Manatt, Clare Manatt, H. McMurray Jr., Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Flook of Grinnell and Mr. A.W. Milligan of Rolfe, Iowa.
