SHELDON L. WRIGHT, 55

Sheldon L. Wright, age 55, of Brooklyn, died Friday, July 6, 2007, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Interment was at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorials may be directed to the Sheldon L. Wright Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.

Sheldon was born the son of Virgil and Ethel Revel Wright on April 16, 1952, in Grinnell. He was raised and educated in Grinnell. He enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for four years and in Massachusetts for two years.

He was united in marriage to Annabelle Marie Moore on June 16, 1971, in Grinnell. The couple moved to Tulsa, Okla. for seven years before residing in Montezuma and Guernsey, and most recently in Brooklyn. Following his military service, Sheldon began his career as a truck driver and then worked for Jim Stevens at Lone Star Truck and Tire in Brooklyn. His love of being on the road led him back to trucking and he was dispatched through Landstar Ranger Trucking Company in Florida.

Sheldon was thought of as an outgoing and family minded person and was the bond that held the family together. He loved family gatherings and watching his nieces and nephews grow older. He spent countless hours talking on the phone with Ann as he drove cross-country during the week and cherished their time together on the weekends. His enjoyments included watching NASCAR races, goose hunting, and playing hand-held video games, including Solitaire and Texas Hold 'Em.

Sheldon is survived by his wife, Ann Wright of Brooklyn; his mother, Ethel Wright of Port Orange, Fla.; his brothers, Leon (Connie) Wright of Locust Grove, Okla., and Roger (Mary) Wright of Iowa City; and several nieces and nephews.

Sheldon was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Wright; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
