SAMUEL LELAND BARR

Samuel Leland Barr, son of Nancy May and John Barr, was born August 12, 1886 near Newburg, Iowa and departed his life December 14, 1959 at his home in Kellogg at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 2 days.

He grew to manhood in the Hickory Grove neighborhood and was united in marriage to Ethel Ladora Milligan, March 12, 1913 at the Methodist parsonage at Kellogg.

To this union eight children were born, Bertha Mae passing away in infancy. Surviving are Mrs. Fred (Ida) Weaver of Grinnell, John of Grinnell, Mrs. Roy (Laurine) Wartondyke of Monee, Ill., Floyd, Franklin and Chester of Kellogg and Owen of Monroe. His wife preceded him in death in 1947.

In 1950 he was united in marriage to Edna White. She passed away in December 1954. In addition to the children preciously mentioned he is survived by four stepsons, Dwight, Leonard, Harry and Almond White; three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Woolard of Alden, Minn., Mrs. Elizabeth Buffum of Montezuma, Iowa and Mrs. Margaret Esler of Grinnell, also a brother, Alexander Barr of Grinnell; twenty-nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

He was converted many years ago in the United Brethren church and has been a member of the Kellogg Methodist church for many years.

Funeral services were held Dec. 17th at the Kellogg Methodist church with the Rev. Floyd Newbrough officiating, assisted by the Rev. Nelson Murdock. Mrs. Earle Trout was soloist and was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Ray Simpson.

Serving on the flower committee were Mrs. Herman Laskewitz and Mrs. Hazel Hunt. Pallbearers were Ross Esler, Paul Esler, Fred Woolard, William Esler, Joseph Buffum and Ray Smith.

Interment was in Prairie View cemetery at Gilman.
