JOSEPH DEXTER,
79, DIES HERE
MONDAY MORNING

Mr. Joseph Dexter, age 79, of 1015 High Street, passed away suddenly Monday morning at his home.

Requiem High Mass for Joseph Dexter will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic church with the Rev. L.V. Kuebrich officiating. Burial will be in Westfield cemetery. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.

Rosary services for Mr. Joseph Dexter will be held at 8:00 .m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Dexter was a prominent farmer for many years and had farmed south of Grinnell until his health forced retirement in 1955. He was the son of Harry and Margaret Bell Dexter and was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 3, 1881.

When a young man, he moved to Iowa and began his farming career. Though busy with farming and stock raising, he was called on to serve his community in many ways.

He was a member of the Poweshiek county draft board since 1940. For six years he served with the board of Poweshiek County Welfare and was a member of the Iowa Association for Retarded Children. Mr. Dexter was a member of the Grange for 33 years and in 1946 during the Grinnell Centennial celebration was one of nine Poweshiek county farmers who received an Agricultural award in recognition for their work in agriculture.

In 1936 his wife, Gertrude Livezey, passed away. On May 29, 1947 he was united in marriage to Katheryn De Luhery at St. Mary's Catholic church by Msgr. Paul Moore.

Surviving are his wife, Katheryn and one sister, Mrs. Ernest Erwin, of Lakenon, Missouri.

Mr. Dexter was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, five brothers and one sister.
