RICHARD HILLIGAS, 74

Richard Hilligas, 74, of Brooklyn, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services for Richard will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with the Rev. David Rogula, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, officiating. The musician will be Marilyn Kriegel.

Casket bearers will be Mark Hilligas, Marvin Hilligas, Ryan Lindner, Brett Lindner, Gene Osborn and Don Brannian. Interment will follow in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home.

Richard Dale Hilligas was born March 31, 1931, in Newton, the son of Charles C. Hilligas and Helen Irene Myers Hilligas. He received his education at Newton and Guernsey schools.

Richard served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Before entering the army, he was a farm hand and drove a school bus for Guernsey schools. He was last employed at Donaldson's as a painter. Prior to that, he was a semi-truck driver; worked for the City of Brooklyn and Amana Refrigeration.

He married Patricia Ann Lindner on Sept. 10, 1960, at the Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. They were the parents of one son, Leroy.

Richard was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the American Legion of Brooklyn. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, sprint car races, attending the Iowa State Fair and coffee with his buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and William; and a sister, Gloria.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia, Brooklyn; a son, Leroy Hilligas, Brooklyn; a brother, Donald Hilligas, Brooklyn; and a sister, Sandra Stratton, Ladora.

A memorial fund has been established.
