Born in Logan County, Ohio, August 1850; passed away August 15, 1923, aged 73 years and two days. Son of John and Anna (Vanness) Burnett. Came west with his parents to Iowa in 1851 settling in Cedar County. His mother died in 1857, his father in 1861, leaving him an orphan at the age of ten years. He received his education in the public schools. In his young manhood he moved to Pottawattamie County, Iowa, where he bought a farm near Griswold. Married to Miss Mary Rancifer in 1878. To this union two children were born; one son, Charles W. Burnett, living in Portland, Oregon, and one daughter, Mr. Mae Baldwin, of Elma, Washington. His wife died some years ago. He was later married to Miss Anna Mercer who only lived six months after their marriage. On June 26, 1907 he was married to Miss Sarah L. Nutting who survives him. Mr. Burnett was a man of strong principles, honest and honorable in all his dealings. For the last two years he was a great sufferer, patient to the last, but expressing his desire to go and be at rest. He leaves a sister, Mrs. Katherine Winterstein, of Griswold, and one brother, Charles B. Burnett, of Wheaton, Kansas, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at half past two.
