John Striker

OBITUARY
John Striker, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Whited, was born March 15, 1833 in Sumerset County, New Jersey. He moved with his parents, when about 21 years of age, to Illinois. From Illinois he moved to Benton County, Iowa. In December 1873, he moved to Pottawattamie County, and in the spring of 1874 he moved to his present and last home. On Dec. 24, 1861, he was married to Charlotte Adams, who preceded him into the beyond, Feb 15, 1864. To this union was born two children who survive him. On March 4, 1869, he was married to Rachel Coovert, of Benton County, Ia. To this union was born four children, three boys and one girl. Two boys and one girl with the wife survive him. He was the oldest of a family of seven children, only two of his brothers survive him. On Sunday at 10:55 a.m., while talking to a friend he suddenly died of apoplexy a few feet south of his house.
