John Q. Rollins
John Q. Rollins was born in Augusta, Maine, Feb. 10, 1839; departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bert White, 1613 Corby St., North Omaha, Neb., Feb 20, 1904, aged 65 years, 10 days. The deceased met his death by being struck on the side by a switch engine at the coal chutes in North Omaha, where he had gone on an errand. His injuries were very severe, consisting of a crushed thigh and several broken ribs. He met with the accident Saturday, Feb 13, about 1:30 p.m. and lived until Saturday evening, Feb 20. In early life Brother Rollins was identified with the M. E. church, but during late years he has stood identified with the Universalist church. At different times during the past few years the writer has conversed with him upon the subject of religion. His faith in God’s love and mercy was firm and steadfast, believing firmly in the final redemption of the whole human race. He was a kindly disposition, social and courteous, a good neighbor and a kind friend. He leaves eight children, several grand-children, a number of relatives and many friends to mourn his death. The children are Edward, Levi, Benjamin, of Oakland; Mrs. Mary Wills, of Surprise, Neb; Mrs. Julia Hare, of Red Rock, Okla; Herbert, of Missouri, Mrs. Bert White and Arthur Rollins of Omaha. The funeral services were held at the Christian church, Monday afternoon, Feb 22, at 2:30 o’clock, in charge of P. H. Green.
