Obituary – [Hugh. C. Rust]
H. C. Rust was born in Henderson County, Ill, April 16, 1863; died at his home in Lincoln, Neb., Feb 21, 1904, after a year of suffering. He leaves a wife and four little children, three brothers and three sisters, and many relatives to mourn his departure. He was raised in Oakland, where, some ten years ago, he married Miss Nellie Bird, a daughter of James Bird. He lived her until a year ago when he went west for his health. His remains were accompanied here by his wife and children and Rev. George M. Gates, a nephew, who is pastor of Emmanuel M. E. church, Lincoln, Neb. The funeral services were held in the M. E. church, Oakland, Ia., Wednesday, Feb 24, at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Mr. Green, assisted by Revs. Rambo and Gates. Mr. Rust, realizing the end was near, made all arrangements for his own funeral and his departure to the other world, just as though he was going on a journey. He made his peace with God and died in hope of immortality and a glad reunion with loved ones gone.
