Irene Leona Shinn
(June 25, 1919 - March 3, 2010)

Irene Leona Shinn, age 90 years, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010. A lifetime resident of Council Bluffs, Irene was born June 25, 1919, to Christopher and Mabel (Vincent) Larsen. Irene was a homemaker and former cook for Council Bluffs Schools. Irene affectionately known as Grandma Peanut, loved to go camping, breadmaking, and she also received a blue ribbon from the Pottowattamie County Fair for her bread. A member of Walk of Grace Church.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Christopher and Mabel; husband, Loren E. Shinn, who passed away in 1968; daughter-in-law, Jere Ann Shinn; siblings, Frances Alexander, Harriet Waffle, Carrie Donaldson, LaVerne Mattox, Bob, Tom and Peter Larsen.

Survivors include daughter, Neta I. Knickman and husband, Conrad; sons, Larry E. and wife, Julie, Clarence L., all of Council Bluffs; 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, brother, James Larsen and wife, Peg, of Council Bluffs; sisters, Betty Smith, of Corona, Calif., and Doris Leeper, of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral services Friday, 1 p.m., also at Funeral Home. Pastor Yvonne Marshall, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Officiant. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery, Woodlawn Section. Lunch will follow at Our Savior's.
