Christopher Parker Grimes
1962-2011
Formerly of Des Moines

Christopher Parker Grimes of Chesterfield, MO died August 13, 2011 due to injuries sustained in a Missouri traffic accident. Age 49, Chris was born to Jeff and Sue Grimes on January 12, 1962 in Iowa City, IA. He grew up in Des Moines, playing football for Roosevelt High School ('80) and singing in Matins Choir at Plymouth Church. He went on to graduate from Iowa State University. His teenage children, Libby and Carter, will miss him dearly. In order to care for them, Chris ran a home day care during their pre-school years. His skills working with young children came naturally; he nurtured many kids through song, dance, and play. Chris was blessed to be loved by a wonderful woman, Jennifer Vaughn. They lived in Chesterfield, MO, where they were active with a dance club and many friends. He worked as a driver for S.P. Richards, and had his own DJ service, providing music for weddings and other events. Chris, with his generous smile, will be remembered as a playful, loving dad and son, and as a sensitive poet and musician.

He is survived by his children Libby Mingus-Grimes and Carter Mingus; his parents Jeff and Sue Grimes; his sister Elizabeth (Ken) Ruehrdanz and their children Ben and Kate; his brother Tim (Lauren) Grimes and their children Noah and Katy; his devoted partner Jennifer Vaughn; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation: Friday August 19, 4 to 6 p.m. at Dunn's Funeral Home. Celebration of his life: Saturday August 20, 11 a.m. at Plymouth Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Libby and Carter Educational Trust Fund in care of West Bank 125 Grand Ave., West Des Moines, IA 50265 or to Plymouth Church for the Matins Choir Program, 4126 Ingersoll Ave., Des Moines, IA 50312.

Published by the Des Moines (IA) Register from Aug. 18 to Aug. 20, 2011.
